Ruth: Introduction: Lesson 1

Ruth: Introduction

Who Is Ruth and Who Wrote Her Story?

Scripture Focus: Ruth 1:1-5 (NASB)

In this introductory lesson, Chris Pope begins a new series on the book of Ruth. He goes over who Ruth is and her story. She was a Moabite woman, a foreigner, who became part of the lineage of King David and ultimately of Jesus Christ. She is the great-grandmother of David.

Chris asks who the true author of the book is. Many feel that Ruth herself is the author, as the book gives first-person views and intimate details that only someone who lived through the events could know. The book bears her name, and her perspective is woven throughout the narrative. She was a woman of extraordinary faith, loyalty, and courage, whose story continues to inspire believers today.
